Winter Rite Narrator This Winter Rite has been based on the Winter Rite from the Crystal Well by: Ed Fitch Narrator In form, imagery, and content, this ritual is purely Russian! Winter is long and harsh in that vast land, and spring will come late. The God whose aspect is most obvious is the mighty Frost King, cold and powerful. The Goddess as ever may be honored as Maiden, Mother, and Crone, but Her pre-eminent aspect is that of the icy, beautiful Snow Queen. Narrator The Divine Child of hope and of the coming year’s bounty is born at this season, for from the Winter Solstice the days will gradually be lengthening... but for a long time yet one must live out the winter in reflective solitude, meditating on winter’s inhospitable beauty, and sharing the company of family and of close friends. Narrator The room will be put on Strict Voice while parts of the Ceremony are being performed and will only be open to interaction after the Circle is cast. You may note pauses throughout the Ceremony please do not be alarmed. They are a time of concentration and centering. They are as they should be. Narrator Let us begin…. Lady_Sakita Merry Meet and Welcome to All. We are here to celebrate Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. Lady_Sakita The breath of nature is suspended: Darkness triumphs; and yet, gives way and changes into light. This is the time of rebirth from darkness, of the Mother Goddess?s rebirth. Light comes from darkness, growth from barrenness, and spring from the depths of winter. Lady_Sakita All waits, while within the Cauldron, the Dark King is transformed into the Infant Light. We watch for the coming of dawn, when the Great Mother again gives birth to the Divine Child Sun, who is the bringer of hope and the promise of summer. Lady_Sakita This is the stillness behind motion, when time itself stops; the center is also the circumference of all. Lady_Sakita Blessed Be! East We are awake in the night. South We turn the Wheel to bring the light West We call the sun from the womb of night. North We are here to bring light to the world. Lady_Aradia Blessed Be! East Blessed Be! Lady_Aradia Blessed Be! Through the birth of the Divine Child, The Golden Newborn Solstice Sun. Narrator She strikes a flame, and lights the white candle before the Goddess image. Lady_Sakita White do we light for the Maiden, Thou divine and joyous child. Fresh and new as the driven snow. Is the taper which is Her symbol. Lady_Sakita We give greetings to the Blessed One. Scarlet as the beauty of the winter sunset, Is the taper which is her symbol. Lady_Sakita We give greetings to the Regal One. Narrator She strikes a flame, and lights the black candle before the Goddess image. Lady_Sakita Black do we light for the Crone, Thou keeper of the magical mysteries. Ebon as the night of sleet, Is the taper which is Her symbol. Lady_Sakita We give greetings to the Wise One. Lady_Aradia As the light grows about us, So also may the presence of the Old Gods, Who come forth now in triumph, Glow where we now stand.
